(A Tribal Problem)
Introduction
How
to Lash
Lashing
is a means of tying two poles together with rope. In our class, you will
learn and practice lashing techniques by building a tower from bamboo skewers
and hemp rope or chrochet cord. This is in preparation for building the
Rainbow Bridge in our next lessson.
Materials
This is a tribal problem
so you will work in small, self-selected groups, although I reserve the
right to adjust the groups. Each group will receive the following:

A package of 75 bamboo skewers
30 cm long

SAFETY: clip off the sharp ends

A ball of hemp, cotton or other light
string, approx 20lb test

Scissors
-
Two to four human brains
Criterion
Your tower must have
a base no more than 50 cm in any one direction. The tower must be at least
70 cm tall. hat makes a good tower? In this case YOU have to set the criteria
for judging your tower. I will test it against your standard. If it passes,
then you pass.
